This special webinar/ hybrid event is to commemorate SVUCE founder principal, Prof. G Ramakrishnan, on his birth centenary year celebrations during 15-8-22 to 20-8-22.

About the lecture - Protection of Power Grid

Synopsis: An outline of basic principles and protection devices

Various active and passive components of power system require constant monitoring for their healthiness and prompt isolation to minimize the damage and allow the rest of the system to function. This task is accomplished by protection devices . While the basic principles remained same over decades, changes in the hardware and method of evaluation have undergone changes to use contemporary technologies and meet ever increasing demands.

About the speaker -

Shri S.V.Appa Sarma

Graduation: A 1969-74 batch alumnus of SVUCE.

Current assignment :

Consultancy in Protection & Electrical Systems to THDCIL since 2011.

Guest faculty at IIT -Roorkee

Key areas of specialization:

1. Electrical Design review of Generating stations EHV Substations, FACTS , Shunt and series compensation packages.

2. Protection relay coordination & setting calculation review.

3. Preparation of technical specifications and technical documents for power sector projects.

4. Review of Feasibility reports and project reports.

5. Power system Project Monitoring, Execution, Operation &Maintenance.

6. Techno commercial evaluation and negotiation of offers.

7. Development of operation and maintenance procedure and failure analysis.

8.Quality system development and witnessing and evaluation of Type , special and routine tests of all material and equipment for power sector projects.
